Opportunities for youth members

Two girls huggingJunior Leaders

Junior Leaders are Guide, Pathfinder or Ranger-aged members who assist Guiders in units at least two branches below them. This means a Pathfinder-aged Junior Leader can assist in a Spark or Ember unit, and a Ranger-aged Junior Leader can assist in a Spark, Ember or Guide unit.

You might be:

  • Registered as a Guide, Pathfinder or Ranger.
  • A youth aged 9-17 who is registered in the unit that you’re assisting with (but you don’t have to be part of a unit at your own branch level). You can participate in all Girl Guide activities (camps, international trips, etc.) for your age group.
As a Junior Leader, you will strengthen your leadership skills by:
  • Helping younger girls work together
  • Planning and leading fun, exciting programming
  • Adapting activities to meet the needs of girls in your unit while balancing different personalities and interest.
  • You will also be a role model for younger girls – they will look up to you to learn specific skills and understand how you should treat others. It’s an important job to be a role model for other girls, and you can be proud that you are helping them become everything they want to be.

Helping out at Provincial Camps and Events

SK Council hosts Ember and Guide camps and as other special events from time to time. Pathfinders and Rangers can assist at these events by running sessions, being a good example for the little ones and generally just being helpful!

Saskatchewan Council Youth Forum

SK Youth Forum is up to ten third-year Pathfinders and Rangers from Saskatchewan. They work together to make a positive impact on Girl Guides at the provincial and national levels. They develop skills in leadership, teamwork, organization, problem solving, planning and youth engagement. SK Youth Forum works under the guidance of an elected Guider, who is a member of SK Council and an adult committee member. This Guider advises the Youth Forum and is the liaison to SK Council.

Commitment:

  • Youth Forum members attend two in-person meetings per year and at least two virtual meetings.
  • Youth Forum members are appointed for a one-year term that can be renewed to a maximum total of three years.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide advice to SK Council on such topics as the appeal of proposed challenges, events, trips, program resources, promotional initiatives, etc., as requested.
  • Promoting Girl Guide activities on social media.
  • Creating surveys or doing in-person consultations with youth members from across Saskatchewan.
  • Supporting SK Youth Conference with theme and program ideas, swag selection, etc.

Applications will be accepted until November 30.
