Alberta Council Scholarships

Alberta Council scholarships are available to any active member under the jurisdiction of Girl Guides of Canada, Alberta Council who has not previously received this scholarship and will be attending an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution full-time for the fall term, be it in person, virtually or a combination of both. The scholarships available to Alberta Council members are:

  • The Alberta Council Scholarship
  • The Joyce Foster Memorial Scholarship

Alberta Council Scholarship

Abigail L.

Abigail

Abigail L. is a dedicated student graduating from Bellerose Composite High School in 2025 and beginning her Bachelor of Science at MacEwan University this fall.

A Girl Guides of Canada member for 13 years, she has earned top honors including the Lady Baden Powell Award, Canada Cord and Trailblazer Silver while leading community initiatives. She has volunteered extensively in seniors’ dementia units, environmental clean-ups and cancer research fundraising, and is also a certified soccer and fitness coach.

Balancing academics, athletics and music, Abigail inspires others through leadership, service and creativity.

Alice R.

Alice

Alice R., graduating from École Voyageur with a 93.3% GPA, is a dedicated leader, volunteer and lifelong Girl Guide. Over 13 years in Guiding, she earned the Canada Cord, Lady Baden Powell, and Trailblazer Silver Leadership Award.

She served as student council president, coached youth soccer, tutored in French and volunteered at community events. A lifeguard-in-charge, she mentors staff and promotes water safety.

Alice enjoys soccer, hiking, painting, reading and running, and will study Communication at Wilfrid Laurier University, continuing her commitment to leadership and service.

Camryn S.

Camryn

Camryn S., graduating from Victoria School of the Arts in 2025, will begin a Bachelor of Science in Paleontology at the University of Alberta this fall.

A Girl Guides of Canada member for over eleven years, she has earned the Lady Baden-Powell and Canada Cord awards, served six years as a Junior Leader and represented Alberta at the Alberta Girls’ Parliament.

She has contributed extensive volunteer hours through community clean-ups, senior visits and peer mentoring. An accomplished artist, her ceramics and textiles have been exhibited, and she serves as Production Manager for her school’s annual film. Camryn’s dedication to science, leadership and service drives her to inspire the next generation.

Claire N.

Claire

Claire N., a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, will begin studying Psychology at the University of Calgary. A nine-year Girl Guides member and Canada Cord recipient, she has served as a Junior Leader, mentoring Sparks and Guides in leadership and service.

Her volunteer work includes organizing school blood drives, leading Rotary Club bake sales and supporting programs like Reading Buddies and coding clubs.

Passionate about creative writing, piano and the outdoors, Claire is known for her initiative, empathy and ability to inspire, qualities that make her a worthy scholarship recipient.

Cora S.

Cora S., a Grade 12 student from Alberta, will pursue Engineering at the University of Alberta. A lifelong Girl Guide, she has earned top awards including the Lady Baden-Powell, Canada Cord and Gold Trailblazer, and served as Premier of the 53rd Alberta Girls’ Parliament.

Passionate about service, she has helped divert over a million pounds of waste from landfills through Hodge Podge Lodge and taught outdoor skills to younger Guides.

A swim instructor, she promotes water safety for all ages. Cora also plays tuba in concert band, piano at Grade 9 Royal Conservatory level and competes provincially in basketball and swimming. Her leadership and enthusiasm inspire her community.

Emily C.

Emily

Emily C., graduating from Jasper Place High School, is a dedicated leader, volunteer and scholar. A Girl Guides member for over a decade, she has spent six years as a Junior Leader with the 154th Edmonton Embers, mentoring youth and organizing camps, cleanups and events.

She has earned Honour Roll each year, captained and fundraised for the school’s Bike-A-Thon supporting the Make- A-Wish Foundation and volunteered with school catering to enhance student events.

Outside of academics, she enjoys fibre arts, sewing, baking, Lego building and puzzles. This fall, she will begin a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences at the University of Alberta, bringing her strong work ethic and compassion to her studies and career.

Felicity B.

Felicity B., a University of Alberta student in Environmental and Conservation Sciences and Native Studies, is a lifelong Girl Guide who has earned the Lady Baden-Powell Challenge and Canada Cord, now serving as a Unit Guider.

She has contributed over 80 hours to the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s WILD Outside program, led 4-H initiatives and worked on environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture projects.

With over 15 years in dance, 7 in cheerleading and experience in musical theatre, including the Edmonton Fringe Festival, she is also an avid birdwatcher, hiker and swimmer. Felicity’s education, service, and leadership reflect her dedication to sustainability, community and empowering others.

Kadence G.

Kadence

Kadence G., an honour roll student at Bert Church High School, will begin a Bachelor of Elementary Education at Mount Royal University this fall.

A Girl Guides of Canada member for nine years, she has advanced through all levels and now serves as a junior leader for local Sparks and Embers. She has led community initiatives such as Relay For Life, raising $75,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society and annual food drives collecting over 1,000 pounds for the local food bank.

Passionate about curling, photography and the outdoors, Kadence has attended international Guiding events and provincial camps. Her leadership, compassion and creativity shine through her school and community involvement, reflecting her dedication to service, education and mentorship.

Meghan D.

Meghan

Meghan D., a Health Sciences student with a Political Science minor at Western University, is a lifelong Girl Guides of Canada member who has served from Junior Leader to National Youth Council Member, shaping policy and promoting diversity.

She has also volunteered extensively with seniors, environmental projects and youth civic engagement through Alberta Youth Parliament.

Recipient of the Western Scholarship of Excellence and the Girl Guides National Team Award, Meghan combines academic excellence, leadership and service. Passionate about the outdoors, she enjoys hiking, crafting and exploring new perspectives.

Violet N.

Violet

Violet N., a graduating Jasper Place High School student, combines academic excellence with a passion for engineering, sustainability and leadership.

This fall, she will begin a Bachelor of Science in Engineering at the University of Alberta. A Girl Guides of Canada member for over a decade, now a Ranger, Violet helps lead meetings and camps while volunteering at festivals, children’s programs, and environmental clean-ups.

An avid rock climber, hiker, having trekked the 600 km Camino de Santiago, and programmer, she also leads her school’s Renewable Energy Club, fostering teamwork, inclusivity and positive community impact.

Joyce Foster Scholarship

Caroline I.

Caroline

Caroline I, winner of the Joyce Foster Memorial Scholarship, is a fourth-year English Literature student at the University of Calgary, specializing in Western Canadian and Indigenous literatures. A lifelong Girl Guide, she has earned Bronze, Silver, and Gold Trailblazer Awards and now serves as a Unit Guider with the 67th Calgary Guides.

Passionate about community service, she has led literacy initiatives with Calgary Reads, volunteered at Calgary Pride, the Calgary Food Bank and the Calgary Folk Festival. An avid skier, hiker, rock climber and traveler, Caroline values language learning and cultural exchange. Her leadership in Guiding empowers youth to build confidence, explore passions and contribute to their communities, reflecting her commitment to service, resilience and inclusivity.
